Abstract

The customized abutments have been widely used for more physiologic and esthetic implant prostheses and gingival retraction is often required to obtain distinct margin of customized abutment impressions. However, gingival retraction is a time and labor consuming process and can cause bleeding and pain of the patients. In this case, before the connection of the abutments to the implant fixtures, the customized abutments were scanned and stored, and the abutment level impression was taken without gingival retraction process after connecting the abutments to the fixtures. Prescanned customized abutment data were superimposed onto the scanned data of abutment level impression model to obtain the abutment margin indirectly in CAD. Implant supported prostheses were fabricated on the abutment margin obtained by superimposing, and presented clinically acceptable satisfactory outcome.
